These bright flowers couldn't be easier to make, just a little sewing involved.
Following my diagram make a pattern.
Cut out the felt.
The petals are formed by folding the main oblong of felt in half, making six cuts as indicated, giving you seven petals. Sew a running stitch along the bottom edge, pull thread to form a circle. Sew the two ends together, at the base.
From the circle of felt make the flower's centre. Sew a running stitch around the edge, put a little bit of stuffing in the middle, pull the thread tight to form a ball, flatten it slightly. You don't need to, but I embellished the centre of the flower with beads.
The leaves I made from two colours of green, one laid on top of the other, enhanced with a simple running stitch, using embroidery thread.
Sew or glue your three elements together.
Attach a brooch pin to the back.
Felt flowers are gorgeous and I was looking for something to make the year 6s when they leave this summer. I had better get cracking.
Thanks again for the wonderful inspiration. A bit cheeky I know, but, have you got any ideas what I can make for the boys?
:) Tracey x
Tracey I have had a think. Boys of that age are difficult, they are starting to get a little rebellious and like their own space so I think a Door Hanger might be a good idea. It could convey 'Do not disturb' on one side 'Welcome' on the other or 'Genius at work/play'. They could just be printed on card, to make it strong glue front and back together. Decorate them with images of skateboarders, skull and cross bones, guitars, footballs, cars etc, for them to colour in, or supply relevant stickers. There are templates on the web Door Hanger template
What about some sort of key ring
Simple paper planes and helicopters, they learn how to make and decorate, see whose goes the furthest! PLANE HELICOPTER
Thanks Anjie you are a star. The doorhanger and keyring sound like a great idea. Thank you once again for taking the time to source these for me. :)
Let me have a think, I'll get back to you.
Oh I love these pretty colourful flowers! I can see the girls and me making a whole bunch of them these holidays. Thanks for the instructions. I think your stacking plates are a great idea too. I'll have to check out the op shops for some as I've always fancied a wonderful cake stand.
I think children would find the flowers easy to make, with a little adult supervision! I'm on the lookout for glass and crockery that might make interesting structures, no pot is safe from me!
