How to Make Big Wooden Knitting Needles

Big knitting needles

I made my big knitting needles from a wooden broom handle, it was only a £1 from Wilkinsons. First I sawed the handle in half. It's made from a soft wood so it was easy to shape. A very big pencil sharpener would have been handy but with a Swiss army knife I roughly shaped the end of the needle. Then with my Dremel power tool I sanded it. Finally I smoothed it off by hand with fine sand paper. For the stoppers at the end I used wooden knobs. These needles are a fraction of the cost of the bought ones and just as good.

Lol, thanks and i made mine out of some Diablo sticks!!! Lol, really helpful, and if you think they are big, type Garden Knitting into youtube!!!!!!!! I knitted a flag with plastic bag yarn that i made and i am using it up the allotment to tie to a bambo pole holding the plant up so when it rustles in the wind the birds will be scared!!!

Wow thank you! I came to your blog yesterday seeking out a crochet flower, but for the past week have been looking for (cheaper) BIG knitting needles, thanks so much! Cheapest I found were...£15+ and postage on top! Fanku!!!!

I cannot imagine how you did get the wooden balls on the top of the needle -please tell me how I can do that best?
Thank you
